Last year was Nintendo’s most successful year for digital revenue yet, as the company reported $412 million from digital sales. After three quarters, Nintendo had already generated as much cash from eShop sales as they had in the entire previous year, and they capped the year off with their most successful digital quarter ever. Unfortunately, they can’t claim the same success this year.
Digital sales saw a sharp decline for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, and the second quarter was even more disappointing. Digital sales for the period of July 1st – September 30th, 2016 were the lowest the company has reported since the same period in 2014. Through six months, Nintendo’s digital sales are down 30% when compared to last year. Digital Download sales were down 30% YoY.
Really shocking that this can happen when the trend in the industry is literally the opposite.
