Overwatch‘s principal designer, Scott Mercer, recently published a blog post on the Blizzard forums detailing changes to the game’s competitive mode. The post also confirmed that Season 3 will begin on December 1st, with Season 2 finishing on November 24th at midnight UTC.

Mercer stated that the development team wanted to make sure that players’ skill rating properly reflected their actual skill level. Since the current system used Season 1’s skill ratings to set the bar for Season 2’s rankings, many players have been placed in gold and platinum tiers when their skill level is more akin to silver or bronze tiers. As a result, these players get consistently beaten at higher tiers and feel frustrated, making the game less enjoyable. The solution, Blizzard feels, is to set your skill rating to be lower at the beginning of Season 3, so that players will be less likely to get stuck at higher tiers.

What do you think of the current skill rating system? Is Blizzard right to change things up? Let us know what you think below!
