In a recent interview with NintendOn, Michael Pachter discussed the marketing strategies of the New Nintendo 3DS and how Nintendo intends to pursue the licensing of their most popular IPs. He also said that Nintendo were making a good decision by releasing the New 3DS in tandem with The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4.

When asked why Nintendo only decided to release the New Nintendo 3DS XL in the U.S., Pachter replied that while he didn’t understand the decision, he believed that Nintendo’s U.S. marketing arm probably had a basis for their decision.

“I don’t understand the decision to release XL only in U.S. I don’t believe it is a supply issue, and I don’t know whether Americans care about XL vs. regular sized, but Nintendo has a pretty good marketing arm in the U.S., and they probably have a basis for their decision.” — Michael Pachter

He stated that the decision to pursue licensing opportunities is a good move for the company, and that we will see “a lot more going forward.”

“Nintendo has great IP, and is making the right decision to pursue licensing opportunities. I think that they can do much more than they have done in the past, including branching into pajamas and costumes. I think that we will see a lot more going forward, and it will both improve their financial position and strengthen their brands.” — Michael Pachter
