Nintendo has pulled some weird moves before, but this one has to be near the top of the list. To encourage early sales ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo is offering quite likely the strangest fighter we’ve ever seen as a bonus. Piranha Plant (yes, that Piranha Plant) is confirmed to be in development as one of Ultimate‘s first post-launch fighters.
Piranha Plant can spit poison, shoot spiky balls, and has a number of long-range attacks. Its Final Smash is Petey Piranha, who swings cages around to capture opponents, reminiscent of his appearance in Brawl‘s Subspace Emissary mode. While Piranha Plant won’t be available until a few months after release, you can grab the fighter for free as a limited time offer. And for you Amiibo fans out there, don’t worry. Piranha Plant is getting one too!
