Sony
predicted an optimistic fiscal year for the PlayStation 4, anticipating sales
around 5 million before the 31st of March. The company can now rest
easy, as console sales have reached 5.3 million units worldwide, with more than
a month left until the end of the fiscal year, and is quickly gaining ground on
the Wii U, which is sitting at 5.8 million sold units. This indicates that the
PlayStation 4 is selling four times faster than Nintendo’s home console.

Meanwhile,
Microsoft saw its console lose out on its traditional home ground as the
PlayStation 4 shipped “nearly double
the amount of consoles in America than the Xbox One, which was reported in January 23rd to have sold 3.9 million units.
