The good folks at Playtonic Games are no strangers to quirky and inspired multiplayer modes. Without them, Banjo-Tooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and even the legendary Goldeneye would not have been quite so memorable when enjoyed with friends. So, with Yooka-Laylee‘s launch just a few months away, it really comes as no surprise that Playtonic has announced eight different multiplayer modes in that will accompany the single player campaign, all “designed” by the lonely, video game-obsessed dinosaur named Rextro.
Rextro’s inclusion alone makes for a pretty entertaining set-up, however the games themselves appear to be a pretty good time, too. None of the eight games are specifically named or described in the trailer, but they seem to cover all the bases: racing, shooting, collecting, etc. It all seems very Mario Party-inspired, in fact. As Rextro so elegantly puts it in the trailer, if you are “lonely like him,” you can still play each game by yourself to compete for a high score. There were no online leaderboards announced, however. Whether there will be one in the final game remains to be seen.
As an aside, the final image dedicated to showing off which platforms you will be able to purchase Yooka-Laylee on is lacking a logo for the Nintendo Switch. As some of you may know, Playtonic mentioned that they may be releasing Yooka-Laylee for the Switch when they canceled the Wii U version. Unfortunately, this trailer tells us a different story, at least for the moment. We will definitely keep you up to date on whether or not the game gets announced for the Switch in the future, though. There are still a few months to go for those of you that are hopeful.
