Earlier this week, Playtonic Games posted a quick backer update commemorating the one-year anniversary of their immensely successful Kickstarter campaign. The quick memo encourages backers to hang tight, as they promise “big news” is coming soon and that they “intend to make you happy.”

Also highlighted in the update was a recent status update interview with Playtonic’s Andy Robinson and Steve Mayles on DK Vine’s The Kongversation podcast. Hidden inside were some particularly exciting gems, one of which is that Playtonic is planning to be at E3 this year!

From the official Kickstarter backer email:

“Who can fathom that the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter was a year ago this week? We’re popping a bottle in tribute, but the real celebrations start a little later.

Playtonic’s Andy Robinson and Steve Mayles recently provided a status update on the project in the DK Vine Kongversation show. Backers should expect big news on the state of Yooka-Laylee very soon. Hold tight, we intend to make you happy…” Playtonic Games

Upon further exploration of the podcast, there seems to be a few other small gems to take away:

  • The villain of the game has officially been confirmed as a “him.”
  • The toy boxes (a Kickstarter backer reward promised to the backers at the medium-tier and up that would provide a hands-on demo of the game to run around in) are still in the works, but they are coming along.
  • While it has previously been discussed that the supporting cast of Yooka-Laylee characters could wind up with their own games in the future, every staff member is hard at work on only Yooka-Laylee.
  • The team is still hard at work and continues to take on staff and build up steam, with no plans in sight of slowing down.

With Nintendo not releasing anything particularly exciting in 2016, Yooka-Laylee is my next most anticipated game, and I can’t wait for their next update and E3 showcase. Are you guys excited for Yooka-Laylee? Sound off in the comments below!
