The Game Awards’ recent trailer for Zelda: Breath of the Wild revealed one, possibly two, new characters: a woman in adventurer’s clothing, and a character dressed in lavish clothing before whom Link bows.

This was one of the subjects we touched upon during the long-form discussion segment on
this week’s episode of Nintendo Week, our Nintendo-themed podcast here at Gamnesia. We’ve already made the full discussion available on YouTube just a few days ago, but for those of you seeking shorter, more digestible chunks, we’ve pulled out this specific snippet of the discussion. Check out the video above for our response, or keep reading below for a brief, brief summary.

We think there are tons of possibilities for these characters—right down to the question whether they’re one and the same. The first woman we see has adventurer’s clothing and some kind of pouch to carry items, rupees, and maybe more. She also appears to be carrying a Sheikah Slate, begging the question whether she’s a playable character. If she is, it could be a wonderful opportunity for this game’s New Game Plus mode, or a great way to explain away any plot holes left open by the free-roaming nature of the game. We think this character could be Zelda, Linkle, Aryll, or other possibilities. The second character, we think, is probably Princess Zelda.

Colin McIsaac
I first played Donkey Kong Country before even turning three years old, and have since grown into an avid gamer and passionate Nintendo fan. I started working at Zelda Informer in August 2012, and helped found Gamnesia, which launched on February 1, 2013. Outside of the journalism game, I'm an invested musician who loves arranging music from video games and other media. If you care to follow my endeavors, you can check out my channel here: http://youtube.com/user/pokemoneinstein I was rummaging through some things a while back and found my first grade report card. My teacher said, "Oddly enough, Colin doesn't like to write unless it's about computers or computer-type games. In his journal he likes to write about what level he is on in 'Mario Land,' but he doesn't often write about much else." I was pretty amused, given where I am today. Also I have a dog, and he's a pretty cool guy. I don't care for elephants much. I suppose they're okay. You've read plenty now; carry on.
