Pokémon GO is only available in a select few countries (although that will hopefully be changing very soon), but it’s already a massive success. With over 7.5 million downloads in the US alone, Pokémon GO shot straight to the top of the charts for both iOS and Android. The augmented reality app has already pulled in an estimated $14 million through mostly small purchases, which has also put it at the top of the mobile revenue charts.
In fact, app-market tracking firm
App Annie reports that Pokémon GO became the most profitable app in the market faster than any other before it. It only took Pokémon GO one day to become the most lucrative iOS app, and it was number one on Android devices within four days. This beats the record previously held by Supercell’s Clash Royale, which took two days to top iOS and seven days to top the Google Play Store. With a global launch, steadier servers, and additional content, App Annie communications boss Fabien Pierre-Nicolas believes Pokémon GO could potentially generate as much as $1 billion per year.
