2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the incredibly popular and beloved Pokémon franchise. The Pokémon Company has a big year planned, including re-releases of the original games (available in retro-style 2DS bundles for Japan and Europe and a New Nintendo 3DS bundle in North America), the global launch of Pokkén Tournament on Wii U, the release of Pokémon GO on mobile devices, and more.
The theme for the 20th anniversary is “Train On,” and The Pokémon Company will be spending a hefty sum of money to broadcast that message to the world in February, as they’ve announced that they’ll be airing a
Pokémon commercial during the Super Bowl for the first time ever. Airing a 30 second commercial in the Super Bowl costs an almost unfathomable sum of around $4.5 million, but with around 100 million live viewers, it can be worth it.
