Nintendo is planning to launch their new console, code named NX, in March of next year, but they’ve revealed very few official details about the upcoming device. Various reports in the industry from respectable sources have indicated that NX will blur the lines between the handheld and home console market, and Tsunekazu Ishihara, CEO of The Pokémon Company, appears to have confirmed this. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Ishihara talked about the concept of NX, and also promised that we’ll see
Pokémon games on the mysterious console.
“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX.” —
In the past, Game Freak has released main series
Pokémon games exclusively on handheld devices, while spin-offs (usually made by another studio) have come to home console. With NX apparently serving the role of both, could we see Game Freak bring a core Pokémon experience to it? A recent rumor indicated that Game Freak is working on an NX game, but that has yet to be confirmed.
