PlayStation 4 is off to an incredible start, eclipsing the 20 million sales mark faster than any product in PlayStation history. Sales have been lukewarm in Japan, but PlayStation 4 almost always comes out on top of the monthly charts in the US, and support for the console is even stronger in Europe. Speaking with VG 24/7, Sony Computer Entertainment President Jim Ryan revealed a jaw-dropping statistic: PlayStation 4 has at least a 70% share of the console market in every country in continental Europe, and in some it’s higher than 90%.
“We have a very significant market leadership. Well, we have market leadership in every country in Europe, and have very significant market leadership in continental Europe. Extremely significant. I don’t think market-share’s any less than 70%, and frequently greater than 90% in continental Europe.” — Jim Ryan
If those numbers are accurate, that is an incredible market share. Europe has always been a strong region for PlayStation products, but this level of market dominance is almost unfathomable. Whatever Sony is doing to promote PlayStation 4 in Europe is clearly working.
