Ever since My Nintendo was announced, Nintendo fans have been eagerly awaiting details on the company’s new rewards system. In a recent interview with TIME Magazine, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé calls it a “virtual hub for all of your consumer interactions with Nintendo IP.” Reggie says My Nintendo will know if you “play games, watch videos, [or] conceptually go to Universal Studios.” The system is described as a “much larger vision,” and that’s why Club Nintendo had to be taken down to make room for the new system.

“Club Nintendo as a program really at its heart rewarded existing players and rewarded them initially with physical goods, and later on here in the Americas with digital goods, digital content, full games that we made available to consumers that they used their Play Nintendo coins to get access to. What’s different with My Nintendo, is that My Nintendo is meant to be the virtual hub for all of your consumer interactions with Nintendo IP.

“Meaning playing a smart device app from Nintendo, it recognizes that you’ve done that and you’ll be rewarded for that activity. Purchase games for our dedicated game systems, My Nintendo will know, you’ll be rewarded for that activity. Play games, watch videos, conceptually go to Universal Studios, the thought process is that this is a more robust and sticky way for you as a consumer to interact with all things Nintendo, for it to be tracked, and then for you to be rewarded for all that activity. Given that much larger vision, the mechanics of the program needed to be completely rethought and redone. And that’s why we sunsetted Club Nintendo to create this new program.

Darrin W. Harr II started gaming at an early age. Even though he was born in one of the later generations of consoles, he started from the very beginning on his grandparents' NES. Playing games such as Wrecking Crew, Super Mario Bros., and Duck Hunt, Darrin spent countless hours of his childhood filled with the entertainment and joy these games brought him. As Darrin read the inscription on the cartridge, clouds parted and sunlight shown through the window: the game was titled, "The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass." Darrin played this game to his heart's content, until one day, his grandmother bought him Spirit Tracks, the sequel to Phantom Hourglass. This was the first Zelda title that Darrin actually finished, and the Zelda title that transformed him into a member of the Zelda fanbase. It was then when he decided to play more Zelda games, such as Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword. In 2013, Darrin became fascinated with a website know as Zelda Informer. Reading their news coverage and in-depth editorials, Zelda Informer helped Darrin to realize that The Legend of Zelda series contains a vast amount of interesting lore. He needed to learn more. After reading numerous Zelda wiki articles and Zelda Informer editorials, Darrin eventually applied to the website, and was accepted around New Year 2015. He later joined Gamnesia in November 2015.
