One of the biggest surprise announcements we’ve seen so far at Gamescom is that Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox One exclusive. Or is it? We’ve already seen two other “exclusive” Xbox One titles (Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome) lose their exclusivity a few months down the road, and many speculate that the same will be true for Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Longtime video game journalist Geoff Keighley claims that is exactly the case, and that he has been told by “many” Microsoft employees that the game is exclusive for one Holiday season. However, a Microsoft executive has publicly denied Keighley’s assertion.
As you can see by the Twitter exchange above, Keighley claims that Microsoft employees gave him the “official line” that Rise of the Tomb Raider is exclusive for one Holiday season. Aaron Greenberg, the head of marketing for Xbox, claims that this was never said. Is this a case of misunderstanding, or did someone at Microsoft let something slip that they shouldn’t have?
