Pokémon the Movie: Everyone’s Story just made its debut in Japan, and as with previous movies, the credit roll ended with a brief teaser for the next movie. What fans weren’t expecting was to hear the familiar voice of Masachika Ichimura, Mewtwo’s Japanese voice actor. Even more shocking is the title of the 2019 Pokémon movie.
With Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! taking the games back to Kanto, it seems the movies are also taking a nostalgic turn. The next film is titled Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. Wow! Who else was not expecting that? Details are scarce at this time, but on the surface this would appear to be a remake (reboot? remaster? game of the year edition?) of the first ever Pokémon movie.
This information comes from moviegoer Dogasu, who happens to be the webmaster of Dogasu’s Backpack, a fansite for all things related to the Pokémon franchise in Japan. Dogasu also notes that the logo shown in theaters was essentially just a retread of the original Japanese logo, but with the word “Evolution” added in English.
