This is an interesting rumor because we have two Reddit sources that don’t contradict each other, per sé, but who can’t agree on what the rumor means. On one side, someone on a plane caught a glimpse of a Powerpoint presentation that included a bunch of games, and among them was Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flags. It apparently had a nice logo, however no pictures were provided. On the other side, another Reddit user overheard two advertising agents talking about the game at a local café in San Francisco. This one, however, goes into much more detail and explains that Black Flags is Assassin’s Creed III DLC planned for release sometime this summer.
“Whilst sitting in a San Francisco Cafe, I happened to overhear two advertising designers discussing a new piece of ACIII DLC, titled Black Flag, that will focus more deeply on naval combat. According to them, the tagline stands as “Survival is the Only Thing Worth Dying For,” and the commercial being pitched involves an Admiral of the British Royal Navy attempting to arrest Connor Kenway on the high seas, whilst a Johnny Cash song sets the tone. The DLC is apparently nearly six months out and still in early development, but seems to be a definite project that Ubisoft is working on.”
The last official word we got on Assassin’s Creed stated the next game would be a complete makeover. That suggests that if this ends up being a new game that the entire second Reddit post is just yanking our chain. If the second post is right, then this is clearly DLC. Fact is, we don’t know if “Black Flags” truly has anything to do with the future, since no evidence has been presented. Still, we love Assassin’s Creed at Gamnesia, and we will wait patiently until Ubisoft decides to give us more information.
