The NX is scheduled to release in around seven months, and we still know almost nothing about it. So far, all that Nintendo has told us is that it releases in March and that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch alongside it. Recent reports have stated that the system will be a console-handheld hybrid, but nothing has been confirmed yet; however, if this latest rumor is true, the NX is poised to have a stellar launch window of games. According to MCV, who cites “sources close to Nintendo,” new Mario and Pokémon titles will be releasing on the NX within six months of its launch.
It makes sense that a Mario game will be coming to the system pretty soon, as the core Mario series hasn’t seen anything since Super Mario 3D World released in 2013. However, Game Freak releasing a new Pokémon game on the console that soon seems like a bit of a stretch. Game Freak’s core team is currently hard at work on Pokémon Sun and Moon, which won’t release until November, so unless they’ve got a team working on another game already it seems unlikely that they’d have another game ready for next year. The rumor isn’t clear on whether the NX Pokémon title would be a main-series Pokémon game or a spin-off, but the thing that seems the most feasible is a port of Pokémon Sun and Moon.
MCV’s sources also state that Nintendo will have a plethora of third-party titles releasing on the system; reportedly, Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros. are all currently planning on releasing games for the NX. We already know that Ubisoft and Sega are developing games for the system, with the former announcing Just Dance 2017 for NX at E3 and the latter announcing that a new Sonic game will be coming to the NX next year. However, if Nintendo has gotten the other developers on board then that would definitely help bolster their lineup.
Finally, MCV’s sources have stated that the Eurogamer leak was “100% accurate.” They also said that the NX’s graphics will be “somewhere between PS3 and PS4,” with Nintendo trying to target a more casual crowd that wants more than smartphone games but not quite PS4-level commitment.
As always, these are just rumors until Nintendo lifts their silence about the NX (which will hopefully happen sometime soon), so take these rumors with a grain of salt until then. Would you guys like this to be true? What do you think of a NX launch window containing Zelda, Mario, and Pokémon games? Sound off in the comments!
