Nintendo has revealed almost nothing about their upcoming NX console since announcing that it will release in March, 2017, but numerous rumors and reports have surfaced in the absence of official information. Shortly after releasing a report that claims NX will feature motion controls and vibration-based features, Let’s Play Video Games (a website created by the former members of the Destructoid UK team) claims to have another NX scoop.
According to their report, NX will feature a Share button, not unlike PlayStation 4, which can be used to uploaded both images and video directly to Miiverse, Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube. The button can also reportedly be used to store images and videos to external memory devices. Secondly, the report alleges that NX will feature a split D-pad rather than Nintendo’s usual solid D-pad.
The new report comes from (at least) two sources according to Let’s Play Video Games. Their first is “a source familiar with the current NX development kit” and the second is someone who has apparently “provided reliable leaks regarding Nintendo products in the past,” but no specific examples were cited.
Since the story was initially published, two other sources have come forward to corroborate parts of the report. Insider Emily Rogers agrees (per her own sources) that NX features “some sort of social button” and that the D-pad is split in dev kits, though this may not be the case for the final product. After following up with their own sources, Nintendo Life is also supporting the claim that there will be some sort of Share/Social button, although they couldn’t confirm that it will work the way that Let’s Play Video Games described.
As with all rumors, this is not confirmed by Nintendo at this point, and we’d advise you to take it with a grain of salt. We’ll keep you up to date if and when more details surface!
