In his latest column for Japanese magazine Famitsu, Super Smash Bros. and Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai answered a series of fan questions. One particular fan was curious about Sakurai’s opinion on the StreetPass feature that allows Nintendo 3DS devices to share data when in close range. Sakurai’s response shows he disagrees with Nintendo’s offline approach. He argues that the current form of StreetPass causes a factor of unpredictability that needs to be addressed.

According to Sakurai, the unpredictable nature of tagging other StreetPass users can cause issues with sparsely populated areas and overseas use. To ensure that everyone can enjoy this feature, he says the system needs to utilize network capabilities and location tracking. Do you share Sakurai’s stance on StreetPass? Have you experienced any of the issues he describes? Let us know in the comments section.
