2016 marks 25 years of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and SEGA plans to celebrate with fans throughout the year. An advertisement in ToyWorld Magazine promises that 2016 will be celebrated with new game releases and special events throughout the year. We already know Sonic will be appearing in two games this year: Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS and Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for Nintendo 3DS. However, considering the vague language of this announcement, many fans are speculating that unannounced games may be on their way.

Furthermore, the ToyWorld ad discusses a heap of new merchandise coming soon. SEGA states they’ve already secured partnerships in publishing, limited edition collectibles, and more.
New style guides and new collaborations across toy, gift, apparel, branded events, and bespoke retail initiatives will be on offer throughout the year,” states the publication. You can find the full release from SEGA in the gallery below.
