Blast from the past Sonic Mania was a nostalgic thrill ride that was well worth the wait for Sonic fans, and many are looking forward to double-dipping into Sonic Mania Plus with its worldwide launch tomorrow. To commemorate, much like they had done with the original Collector’s Edition last year, SEGA put together a familiar tongue-in-cheek advert that those who grew up in the 90’s “Console Wars” will surely recognize.

This particular infomercial pays homage to the original SEGA Genesis vs. Super NES ad, nailing the aesthetic down to the CRT televisions and a well practiced salesman downplaying the expectations which “the first serious gamer [he’s] seen all morning” (hi Aaron!) has over Sonic Mania Plus. Rather than pitting the upcoming Sonic release against that of a familiar plumber, the ad takes well-aimed potshots at certain trends pervading the current gaming industry.

Sonic Mania Plus launches tomorrow on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Those who own the original version of Mania can forego the physical release by purchasing the Encore Mode add-on with Mighty and Ray in digital storefronts for $5. Also launching tomorrow is the final episode of the five-part Sonic Mania Adventures webseries.
