Shenmue III has officially surpassed Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which gathered $5,545,991 in total, as the highest funded video game in the history of Kickstarter. The goal of this Kickstarter was to gather 2 million dollars, and at the time of writing Ys Net has gathered almost thrice that amount. $5,737,293 have been pledged, but that number is still rising, since there are still a couple of hours left before the Kickstarter closes.

Later today, at 4:00 PM PST, the creator of the Shenmue series, Yu Suzuki, is going to host a live event to celebrate the ending of the Kickstarter campaign. He will not be alone, as several members of the development team will join him.

The announcement of Shenmue III at E3 2015 met with an incredible amount of positive feedback from fans, which directly translated into an enormous amount of money pledged to the Kickstarter. Of course they did not keep that momentum, but a record-breaking $5.7 million is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Are you planning to buy Shenmue III when it comes out, or have you already backed this Kickstarter? Let us know in the comments below!

Hello everyone! I have been gaming for as long as I can remember. I still feel as enthousiastic about it as when I was a kid, perhaps even more. Though I have fun playing any kind of game, my favorite genre has to be JRPG's. I am also very passionate about Nintendo, I was brought up with their games and they do have a special place in my heart. I am also very passionate about writing, be it stories or articles, and that's why I'll try to do my very best here! P.S. Wario is number 1!
