Aside from all the new footage from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, my personal highlight of The Game Awards this year was getting to see the awesome new Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment trailer from Yacht Club Games. The developers have been hard at work on getting Specter Knight’s campaign ready to go, and if a recent blog post about the upcoming content is anything to go off of, Specter of Torment is going to be one heck of a ride.

As mentioned during The Game Awards, Specter of Torment is actually a prequel adventure to Shovel Knight. The story follows Specter Knight as he travels the realm to recruit knights for the Order of No Quarter for The Enchantress. In addition to this brand new story, Specter of Torment will feature new areas, music, enemies, boss fights, and much more. Even the boss knights we already know will return with new tricks up their sleeve!

Yacht Club Games says that they’re “building Specter of Torment from the ground up so that it can be a completely unique standalone experience.” With all of this new content coming, it certainly seems like that philosophy is coming to fruition. Specter of Torment will be released as a free update for Shovel Knight sometime in Spring 2017.

What do you think of Specter of Torment? Make sure to check out the full trailer above and let us know what you think!
