Following a rumor that we reported on yesterday, Skylanders Imaginators has officially been announced as the next game in the popular toys-to-life series. In an official statement from Activision, it was revealed that players will be able to create their own Skylanders that they can transport into the game. Activision didn’t go into the creation process in detail, but they did say that “the amazing depth of the creation system could allow for more than a googol distinctive characters.”

Activision also went over the story. The main antagonist of the game, Kaos, has a new plan to take over Skylands. It’s up to the Portal Masters to create their own Skylanders and transport them into the game using the new Creation Crystal toy that allows players to “transport their Imaginators to consoles at anytime, anywhere!

Skylanders Imaginators also introduces a new group of heroes called Skylander Senseis. These characters will have ten different classes such as Knight, Sorcerer, and Brawler. The Senseis will help train the player-created Imaginators, unlocking new weapons and giving access to new areas for them. There are 31 Senseis in all, some of which are villains from past Skylanders games that have now turned into heroes.

Starting today, Activision is holding the Skylanders Art-to-Life Contest. This contest will allow players to submit their creations for new Skylanders to be featured in the game when it launches this October. To participate, fans only need to post their drawings on Twitter and use the hashtag #SkylandersArtContest. Alternatively, submissions can be emailed to [email protected]

Skylanders Imaginators will release for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U on October 18. You can check out the reveal trailer above, as well as some screenshots from the game and pictures of some of the new figures in the gallery below!

Writing is half of my life. Video games make up the other half. I decided to put these two hobbies together and join Gamnesia back in 2015. I spend most of my time working at a retail store and paying off my student debt. When I'm not getting stressed about the thousands of dollars I owe my loan providers, I play tons of video games (which just puts me into more debt). I'm also currently writing a novel in what little spare time I have. It's a story I've been wanting to write for a while, but I don't want to talk about it until I have most of it completed. Any Gamnesia-related inquiries may be sent to [email protected] Feel free to follow my personal Twitter if you want (@Pindlo). I mostly just retweet things.
