Many fans of the Super Smash Bros. series will tell you that the GameCube controller is their preferred method of control when playing the game. In order to please long time fans, Nintendo released an adapter for the Wii U that would let players hook up their GameCube controllers for use with the franchise’s newest release. This adapter was sold in two ways, either alone for $19.99 or in the special edition bundle of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which came with the game, the adapter, and a Smash-themed GameCube controller for $99.99. Needless to say, these all got pre-ordered and sold out very quickly, leaving many without the adapter they desperately wanted.

Enter eBay, the hero of obscure and sold-out items. With the supply being short and the demand being high, many took advantage of this and started selling their adapters online for upwards of $100. What’s even crazier is that people are willing to pay this much for the adapter. Almost every GameStop, Toys “R” Us, Target, Walmart, and anywhere else you can think to buy video game accessories are sold out of the peripheral and aren’t expecting big shipments any time soon. If you really want that GameCube adapter, get your wallet ready to take a big hit.

Would you be willing to pay that much for the GameCube adapter? Let us know in the comments!
