This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any longtime Nintendo fans, but Super Smash Bros. is one heck of a popular franchise. The crossover fighting series is one of Nintendo’s hottest properties and also one of its best system sellers, and that’s truer than ever this generation. In fact, when it comes to the UK, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is performing better than almost every Nintendo game in history.
Last week we reported that
Ultimate is outpacing every past Smash game in the UK with an incredible 302% increases in launch sales over the Wii U iteration of the franchise, but it doesn’t stop there. Nintendo of Europe recently announced that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now the fastest-selling Nintendo home console game of all time in Europe. Based on the phrasing, it sounds like only handheld-specific titles (perhaps Pokémon) have ever had a faster start in Europe.
We don’t have exact
Smash sales figures for Europe yet, but with over 3 million units sold in the United States and nearly 2 million sold in Japan, it’s clearly a global success. Combine that with the strong sales of Pokémon: Let’s Go and Super Mario Party, and you have one impressive holiday season.
