A new development in the ongoing drama between Kojima Productions and Konami has come to light, once again signalling the possible end of an era. Yesterday, Solid Snake’s Japanese voice actor, Akio Otsuka, took to Twitter to give a heartfelt farewell to the development company. While this doesn’t serve as official confirmation of the studio’s closure, it does make the scenario seem all the more likely.

While saying goodbye to the studio, Otsuka simultaneously praised the team behind
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, saying:

“Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete.I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to say ‘Kept you waiting, huh?’ (Laughs.) But even if this is the end,
Metal Gear Solid is immortal!” — Akio Otsuka

I certainly hope this isn’t true, but given everything that’s happened between Kojima and Konami, it wouldn’t surprise me if this really is the end. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds!
