Nintendo finally revealed some details regarding Nintendo Switch Online, the upcoming paid membership program. Nintendo Switch Online adds numerous features, including a library of digital NES games. One of the most-requested features that’s coming to Nintendo Switch Online is the ability to back up your save files to the cloud. However, it appears this capability will not be universal.
If you navigate over to the official Nintendo Switch Online website and browse the Service Details, you’ll discover a key caveat. The “Save Cloud Data” section states “Please note: not compatible with all software.” It’s unclear how widespread this feature will be. It could simply be a case of Nintendo letting other developers choose whether or not they want to support cloud saves, or it could be more limited than that. Details are scarce at the moment, but Nintendo will provide more before Nintendo Switch Online launches in September.
The ability to back up your save files via the cloud will only be available to Nintendo Switch Online members, and Nintendo has not yet announced any other way to back up save files. You can check out full details on Nintendo Switch Online pricing by clicking here.
