EarthBound is full of small easter eggs, and even 21 years after the game’s original release, there are still secrets left to be found.

video posted to YouTube a few days ago showcases a new easter egg that can be triggered during the cutscene where Buzz Buzz informs Ness about Giygas’ plan to destroy the universe, near the beginning of the game. It allows a controller plugged into the Player 2 slot to move the large beams of light that emerge from the meteor, by pressing the Select button just as the beam is about to close.

EarthBound doesn’t have a normal multiplayer mode, so some of you may be confused as to why a second controller can take hold of the game in this way. Usually, when a second controller is plugged in, the second player is just given control of Ness, and both Player 1 and Player 2 can control the game at the same time. However, there are several points in the game, like cutscenes such as this one, where plugging in a second controller to the console gives you some added interactivity. These are very rare, however, and can be hard to execute, which can explain why it took so long for this easter egg to be found.
