SEGA is currently holding a livestreamed panel for Sonic at SXSW, and they just dropped some big gaming news! Last year’s new 2D entry in the franchise, Sonic Mania, has been a smash hit even though it’s only available as a digital download. That’s finally changing this Summer, as SEGA has just announced Sonic Mania Plus, a physical release of Sonic Mania with extra content.
In addition to the normal content of the base game, Sonic Mania Plus adds two new playable characters: Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. The game will also feature a new “Encore Mode” that adds visual changes to each level, giving you new ways to experience them. Additionally, the Competition Mode is being expanded to allow for up to four players. Sonic Mania Plus will come with deluxe packaging that includes a holographic slip cover, a reversible SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive sleeve, and a 32 page Sonic Mania art book. All of this comes in one package for just $29.99.
If you’ve already purchased the game digitally, have no fear! When Plus launches in stores, SEGA will release a digital update that adds all the new content to the base game. Pricing has not yet been revealed for the digital update.
