Ever since its reveal last summer, Sonic Mania has promised to be a tantalizing mash-up of new and old, pulling classic Sonic the Hedgehog levels and gameplay from the original trilogy of SEGA Genesis classics while still introducing plenty of new areas and features. After a delay from its initial spring 2017 release window, Sonic Mania left eager fans with no specific release date, but the game’s Steam page may have let that launch date slip: August 15th.
That’s by no means confirmed, however. This detail was only spotted at the end of a trailer on the German version of the Steam page, with the page itself still listing it for a broad summer 2017 release window (as does the English version of the trailer). SEGA has not yet officially confirmed that August 15th is the game’s release date, and even if the trailer is correct, there’s no telling if this date will apply worldwide or just to that specific region. As such, no one can say for sure yet if this is when the new Sonic game will launch.
With E3 less than three weeks away, though, there is little doubt that we will soon get a release date for this classically inspired title.
Sonic Mania is planned for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
