In a recent interview with Game Informer, Splatoon co-director Yusuke Amano was asked if the title could ever work on the Nintendo 3DS. The game is a hit on the Wii U, so porting the game to our favorite handheld would be the next logical step in a lot of gamers’ minds. After all, that’s exactly what Koei Tecmo and Nintendo are doing with Hyrule Warriors.
However, Amano states that a Nintendo 3DS port is not feasible due to the handheld’s hardware limitations. He mentions the ink, and how getting it to look just right was a challenge for the development team. Making the ink look that way is just not possible for Nintendo’s portable system.
“With the splattering of ink, which is definitely key to the game, this is something we spent a lot of time on getting the feel and the look of exactly like we wanted. I think that’s something that would be quite difficult to realize on the 3DS considering its limitations.”
