The NPD Group is beginning to report sales numbers for the US in the month of July, and Nintendo has chimed in with some positive words about Splatoon. As we previously reported, Splatoon has sold over 1.6 million copies worldwide, and Nintendo says strong sales of Splatoon have boosted Wii U software sales up 10% over last year. Splatoon sold over 85,000 units in the US last month, and it has sold over 540,000 in the US to date.

Nintendo also reported that 3DS sales are up 35% over last year so far. This jump was sparked by the launch of New Nintendo 3DS, but that number has declined each month since February. For the
second month in a row, Nintendo opted not to comment on Wii U hardware sales year over year in their NPD report.
