Dragon Quest VII was remade for 3DS in Japan in 2013, and it sold over 1.2 million copies. This prompted Square Enix to remake Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS as well, but so far there has been no news on localization for either game. That changed today, when Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii told French site Final Fantasy Ring that Square Enix is “thinking about localizing the two games.”
This interview took place at the Japan Expo in France, and shortly afterwards reports came flooding in that Horii let it slip that the two remakes will be released in France. This revelation reportedly upset his translator, likely because he was not supposed to announce that information. If Square Enix is localizing the games in France, there’s a very good chance that they’ll be released in other regions as well.
