New statistics published by Newzoo and Octoly show that for the first time, Super Mario entered the rankings for the top 20 Game Franchises on YouTube. Coming in at number 8, Super Mario got almost 550 million views on YouTube last month.

The research tells us that 99.6% of those videos were fan-made and overall, these kinds of gaming videos made up 97.6% of the views on YouTube’s top 20 in March.

The top spots were taken by Minecraft (3,934m views), Grand Theft Auto (1,393m) and Five Nights at Freddie’s (1,273m), with Minecraft boasting 32% of YouTube’s top 20 content.

With positive statistics like these, will Nintendo realize the power of fan-made content?
