The release of Super Mario Odyssey has been extraordinarily successful so far. The game is already classified among the highest-rated video games of all time, according to review aggregator sites like Metacritic and Game Rankings, and it’s gained incredible popularity in its first few days on the market.
In its latest financial briefing, Nintendo revealed the first official sales numbers for Super Mario Odyssey, and they’re outstanding. The company claims that Odyssey sold over two million copies in its first three days, making it the sixth Nintendo Switch title to sell over a million units and the fourth-best-selling Switch title overall, behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2.
In this same financial briefing, Nintendo gave us some updated sales numbers on the Nintendo Switch, the 3DS, and some of their best-selling titles. The Switch sold 2.93 million units this quarter (for a total of about 7.3 million lifetime sales), and the 3DS sold around 1.91 million, adding to a total of 68.98 million. In terms of software, the Switch sold around 13.98 million games, and the 3DS about 7.97 million (both of these figures are somewhat conservative estimates, though since Nintendo doesn’t count sales of digital-only titles).
Overall, Nintendo reports a profit of over ¥51,503 million, over a 170% increase from the same period last year.
