During today’s Apple event, Shigeru Miyamoto appeared on stage to make a surprise announcement. Miyamoto announced that the next mobile game would be focused on Mario. In Super Mario Run, players simply have to tap the screen to jump as Mario automatically runs across the level. Following the event, IGN spoke with Miyamoto about the decision to put Super Mario Run on iOS, with Miyamoto stating that “For us, the stability of the iOS platform was important in choosing iPhones for the game.” Miyamoto told IGN that Super Mario Run would be coming to Android at a later time, but not this year.
