Dark Souls Remastered Finally Launches on Switch in October

FromSoftware’s beloved (and feared) Dark Souls was remastered in HD and re-released back in May. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch version of the game apparently needed a little more time to cook. Publisher Bandai Namco initially announced that the Switch version had been delayed till Summer, but as the months passed and no updates were given, that window began to look unlikely. Today, we finally have our answer.

Bandai Namco has just announced on Twitter that Dark Souls Remastered launches on Nintendo Switch on October 19th. You’ll be able to pick up the Solaire of Astora amiibo on the same day. Bandai will also be holding a Network Test sometime before the game launches, so we’ll be on the lookout for more specifics in the coming weeks.

Earlier today, during the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, Nintendo announced a slew of new characters that are joining the roster. Simon Belmont and King K. Rool are coming as brand new fighters, while Richter Belmont, Chrom, and Dark Samus are joining as Echo Fighters. With this expanded roster comes an expanded Amiibo lineup as well!

That’s right, Amiibo based on all five of these fighters will be available in the future, allowing you to train your fighters into the ultimate Smash brawler. No date has been announced yet, but keep your eyes peeled for any updates!

Captain Toad’s New Levels Can Be Unlocked Immediately with Amiibo

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, one of the most charming games on Wii U, is headed to Nintendo 3DS and Switch later this week. When the puzzle game hits the new platforms, it will do so with new content. In total, there are four new levels based on Super Mario Odyssey, including New Donk City, Cascade Kingdom, Sand Kingdom, and Luncheon Kingdom.

These levels will be available to play after you’ve beaten the game, but Nintendo has revealed a way to unlock them right from the start as well. If you want to play the new content right out of the box, all you have to do is scan an Amiibo from the
Super Mario Odyssey line. You can also scan a Toad Amiibo to grab an invincibility mushroom. All other Amiibo can be scanned for 1-Up mushrooms.

Unfortunately, we also discovered last month that these new stages come at a price. Instead of just adding new content, Nintendo is swapping some out. The Wii U version of the game features four unlockable levels from
Super Mario 3D World, but they’ve been removed in the 3DS and Switch versions in favor of the new Odyssey content.

Quite possibly one of the strangest Pokémon games in recent times, Great Detective Pikachu has seen some success in Japan, at least enough to warrant a full-fledged movie starring Ryan Reynolds. Though the film is just starting to shoot, Western fans can get in on the hype starting March 23rd when Detective Pikachu hits stores in North America and Europe. The game will launch alongside a Detective Pikachu Amiibo that’s almost twice as tall as a regular Amiibo. When scanned into the game, this figure will provide short videos which can give you some helpful hints.

Mario Party: The Top 100’s New Trailer Shows Off Its Game Modes and Amiibo Functionality

Some people may have been worried at first, but it looks like Mario Party: The Top 100 is going to be more fleshed out than they originally thought. We know more of what to expect thanks to a new trailer detailing some of the game modes and Amiibo functionality. The game has more than just minigames, but the pack of 100 certainly seems to be the highlight: the glue that will likely hold this package together for some Nintendo 3DS gamers.

Small boards will be playable among the various minigames from throughout the series’ home console history. A minigame decathlon and other game modes are playable via download play with friends.

Amiibo functionality comes into play too with the Super Mario series of NFC figures. They can earn the player extra coins, lives, or special minigame packs. It looks like the Goomba and Koopa Troopa Amiibo will be especially good figures to have around when playing this portable Mario Party, as they can provide you with extra large bonuses in certain situations.

What do you think about this game now? Do you still wish it was coming to the Nintendo Switch instead? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Champion Amiibo Get New Details and a Release Date

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has seen enormous success and critical praise ever since its launch in March, so it was hardly a surprise when Nintendo announced new Amiibo based off the four Champions of the game: Daruk, Mipha, Urbosa, and Revali. During today’s Nintendo Direct, these Amiibo got a quick segment detailing what they will unlock in Breath of the Wild, as well as their release date: November 10th.

As for what these Amiibo will do for you, they will each provide Link with a brand new helmet based on each Champion’s respective Divine Beast. These helms are said to have functions beyond just looking great, but it seems we’ll have to wait a bit longer before Nintendo reveals that to us.

While these new helmets are pretty cool, I’m still shocked that we didn’t get any new info on Breath of the Wild‘s second DLC pack in today’s Direct. Are you as surprised as I was? Or is this info on the Zelda Amiibo enough to satisfy you for now? Let us know in the comments!

Lyn is Lending Her Steel to the Cast of Fire Emblem Warriors

At least one of the recent rumors about Fire Emblem Warriors has been confirmed. Lyn, one of the main characters from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, will add her name to the list of playable combatants. While she does not come from the three main games that Koei Tecmo claimed the Warriors title would focus on, she is considered the most popular female character in the series, so her inclusion is definitely warranted. In addition, Nintendo revealed that the Chrom and Tiki Amiibo will launch alongside the game next month.

Following the Direct, Nintendo also posted an extended gameplay trailer to their YouTube channel. You can check out both that video and Lyn announcement below!

Skyrim is Getting Content from Zelda: Breath of the Wild Exclusively on Nintendo Switch

We’ve known for a while that Bethesda’s hit RPG Skyrim is coming to Switch later this year, though details have been fairly scarce. Though we still don’t have any sort of confirmation on whether or not this will take the form of the Special Edition, tonight’s E3 conference confirmed a couple of cool features for the entry. First, Skyrim on Switch will feature motion controls, allowing for a more interactive experience.

More surprising, however, is Skyrim‘s compatibility with Amiibo. Though we aren’t sure of the full range of compatible figures, we do know that the Breath of the Wild Link will unlock Link’s Champion Tunic, Hylian Shield, and the Master Sword.

Check out the trailer above! What do you think of these special features?

Here’s Everything We Learned About Splatoon 2 From Today’s Nintendo Direct

Today’s Nintendo Direct gave us tons of information on Splatoon 2, including the game’s official release date and the announcement of a new game mode, “Salmon Run.”

First off, we learned about a new series of Amiibo for Splatoon 2. Nintendo is releasing new figures for Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Squid, similar to the ones that came out for the original Splatoon a couple years back. When scanned into the game, these will give you special gear, and they’ll also create new in-game Amiibo characters that will befriend you and allow you to save different outfits and gear set-ups for your Inkling. You can save pictures of you and your new Amiibo friend, and share them via Switch Album. If you still have your original Splatoon Amiibo, the game is backwards compatible with those as well.

The new game mode, “Salmon Run,” will consist of collecting “Power Eggs” and fighting against salmon-like enemies called “Chum.” You’ll face off against multiple waves of Chum, even battling waves of giant “Boss Chum,” in a survival arena.

Nintendo also mentioned the “US Inkling Open,” a massive nation-wide Splatoon tournament that they are hosting this month. The winner or the tournament will receive free tickets to E3 2017 as well as a few other prizes.

Splatoon 2, as well as the new line of Amiibo for the game, will launch on July 21st, 2017.

Nintendo is Releasing New Amiibo of Link in Past Games for Zelda’s 30th Anniversary

During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that it is launching a new series of Amiibo this year to celebrate The Legend of Zelda‘s 30th anniversary. These Amiibo will be based on Link’s look in previous entries in the series. There will be three figures, made to look like Link in Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword. This new line of Amiibo will launch on June 23rd.

Along with this line of Zelda-themed Amiibo, Nintendo is also finally releasing the last few Amiibo for the DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta will each be getting two Amiibo figures in different outfits (and, in Corrin’s case, different genders). We also finally have a release date for these Amiibo: July 21st.

Are you excited for the new Zelda Amiibo? Or are you just happy to finally have the last group of Smash Amiibo on the horizon? Let us know in the comments!

Check Out This Stunning Custom-Made Princess Mipha Amiibo

A while back, we posted about the talented GandaKris and her custom-made Nintendo Switch puppy Amiibo. She certainly hasn’t stopped making various figures since then, and her latest Amiibo is perfect for those that have been playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

For those that have played through the story, you may be familiar with the character of Princess Mipha. Without giving too much away, Mipha is a Zora that aids Link on his journey and plays a big role in the overall fight against Ganon. This character has a beautiful design, so it’s no surprise that GandaKris’s latest creation was modeled after her. If you’d like to check out pictures of the Mipha Amiibo, you can see them below!

Someone Discovered Plans for Three New Zelda Series Amiibo

Late last year, Nintendo celebrated the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda by releasing some Amiibo based on some of the franchise’s most popular games. Included in this release were three Link figures, based off of Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda, and The Wind Waker, as well as a Zelda figure also from The Wind Waker. As part of the huge Breath of the Wild data leak last week, some prying eyes noticed that nestled within the list of Zelda Amiibo were three new names, suggesting that Nintendo might be planning on releasing even more 30th anniversary figures.

The files listed the three unknown figures as “TableKing30th_Link_Twilight,” “TableKing30th_Link_Majora,” and “TableKing30th_Link_Skyward.” Since these do not correlate to any known figures, it seems reasonable to assume that these represent new figures. If it wasn’t already clear from the names, these hypothetical figures would likely be based off of Link’s Twilight Princess, Majora’s Mask, and Skyward Sword incarnations. I don’t have any idea what the Twilight Princess figure could look like since we already have Wolf Link, but I can easily see the Majora’s Mask figure showcasing the mask itself or maybe even Fierce Deity Link. For the Skyward Sword design, I think Link riding a Loftwing would be really nice.

For now though, these figures are purely hypothetical. Nintendo hasn’t released any information about the possibility of new Zelda Amiibo, so read into this what you will. I, for one, am hopeful to expand my collection even further!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Five Different Battle Modes Newly-Revealed

While the Nintendo Switch already has a number of new titles announced for it, Nintendo’s next console will also be getting at least one port of a Wii U gem in the form of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. We’ve already heard about some of its new features, chief among them the revamped Battle Mode, but thus far we’ve only seen two of these modes in action. A recent PR image sent out by Nintendo, however, reveals that there are planned to be at least five, and the image hints at what exactly each mode will entail.

You can see it in the gallery below: it has five icons, the third and fourth of which obviously correspond to the previously-seen Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast modes. The identity of the other three modes are unconfirmed at this time, but we can certainly speculate. The first one suggests a return of the “Shine Thief” mode from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! or the “Shine Runners” mode from Mario Kart DS. The second may refer to a mode like Mario Kart Wii‘s “Coin Runners,” while the final image of a Piranha Plant remains a mystery.

Additionally, there are images showing new costumes for your racers, including a group gained through the use of
Splatoon Amiibo! That’s pretty fitting, given the new Inkling racers and Splatoon-themed Battle course, but it’s great to see that even more love is coming to Nintendo’s newest hit IP. You can check out all these images in the gallery below to see them for yourself.

What do you think of all these new features? Are they enough to make you pick up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, or is the Wii U version of the racer still enough for you? What do you think the last Battle Mode could be like? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
