Bowsette’s Creator Receives a Trophy from NicoNico

One of the strangest video game stories of 2018 was the saga of Bowsette. This fan-made character, the product of Bowser acquiring a Super Crown, dominated social media for weeks after the initial comic was released. It sparked fan art galore, numerous cosplays and spin-off characters, a game mod, and even a convention in Japan.

Now that 2018 is all wrapped up, Japanese video service NicoNico and online art community Pixiv are handing out awards for the top trends of the year. As such, Bowsette creator ayyk92 was awarded with a trophy. As the trophy notes, Bowsette was rated by these two companies as the 20th most popular trend of 2018. Not bad for a tweet that unexpectedly went viral!

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Already Has a Bowsette Mod

We’ve finally come full circle. When Nintendo first announced New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (still a mouthful) for Nintendo Switch, they revealed a new item called the Super Crown that transforms Toadette into “Peachette.” The internet began speculating what the Super Crown would do to other characters, such as Bowser, and soon the often-NSFW “Bowsette” was born.

Now that the game is finally out on Nintendo Switch, it’s time to make those fan dreams a reality. Well, probably not all of them. This is still a family friendly game, after all. Either way, modder Nivium has already put together a mode with a playable Bowsette. You can check out the footage above!

Nintendo Releases Official Peach and Bowser Crossover Art

The online gaming community has been going absolutely nuts over a made-up character in recent weeks, thanks to artist ayyk92‘s drawing that explored what would happen if Bowser put on the Super Crown from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. The “Bowsette” character that spawned from this comic has yet to receive any real comment from Nintendo, but as it turns out, they already had a crossover planned.

Nintendo Dream just released a licensed Super Mario Odyssey art book in Japan, revealing all kinds of concept art for the critically acclaimed Switch game. There’s plenty of good stuff to leaf through, but perhaps the most shocking discovery is that there’s a comic featuring a “Peach Bowser” crossover character. She’s not exactly Bowsette, but it’s pretty amazing nonetheless.

Japanese Nintendo Fans are Holding a Bowsette Convention

Over the past two weeks, the internet has erupted into an obsession over a made-up Nintendo character. The introduction of the Super Crown item (which transforms Toadette into Peachette) in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe led to fans imagining what other characters would look like with a Super Crown, and Bowsette has become the clear front-runner.

Nintendo remains silent on Bowsette, but the fans just keep getting louder. In Japan, support for the character is so strong that cosplayers and artists are now organizing an event to celebrate. “Project Crown” looks to gather Bowsette lovers together at the Kawasaki Municipal Industrial Promotion Hall on October 27th for various activities, including art and manga sales and cosplay competitions.
