Several Sony First-Party Titles Have Broken 1 Million Units Sold

During Sony’s press conference yesterday, Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida shared some good news for Sony’s first-party development studios. Since the PlayStation 4’s launch, on top of the system itself exceeding ten million units sold worldwide, several of Sony’s first party titles have broken the one million units mark in the last ten months. Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall, The Last of Us Remastered, and Infamous: Second Son have all sold rather impressively. This will likely mean more first-party Sony titles in the future. Whether that is good or bad news to you is up to personal preference, but more potentially high-quality games can hardly be a bad thing.

inFAMOUS Sequels Could Take Place In Different Eras and Locations

Sucker Punch Production’s inFAMOUS: Second Son was released a week or so ago with very positive reviews, making many a PlayStation 4 owner happy with a new first party exclusive. In an interview, Sucker Punch’s Nate Fox talked about the future of the series where the games can take place in different locations around the world along many different timelines. Basically, he said that they will probably take the route of Assassin’s Creed and have our super powered protagonist use his powers anywhere, anytime. Fox also said that he would be fine with Sucker Punch only making inFAMOUS games.

“That’s a good curse to be saddled with. inFamous is a really broad concept – an everyday person gets powers and decides if they want to use them for good or evil. That could be anybody of any age, any gender, any time, any country. It’s as wide open as superhero fiction.” —
Nate Fox

If you ask me, I like the idea of the franchise taking place during different eras and locations. It would bring new life and ideas into future sequels of the franchise. However, I do think they need to make new IPs. I mean, this is Sucker Punch, the original creator of both the Sly Cooper franchise and the inFAMOUS franchise. I think Sony will give them some money and time to work on a brand new franchise. Personally, I would be very tired of working on one IP for many years. More well known developers should be able to be creative and take some risks with new ideas, as people can get tired of the same game. But really, as long as they don’t do a yearly release, I am fine with sequels.

PlayStation 4 Sales Spike 106% in the UK Following the Release of inFAMOUS: Second Son

With the release of inFamous: Second Son on March 21st of last week, the PlayStation 4 has received a boost in sales of 106% in the UK. MCV UK has been told by “a trusted retail source” that not only did the sales of the PlayStation 4 spike 106% following the release, but it also pushed Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, who had been sitting as the number one best selling PlayStation 4 game, down to second place.

The old video game saying goes “software sells hardware.” That idiom always proves to be true when big console-exclusive system sellers like inFamous: Second Son or Titanfall, whose release caused Xbox One sales to spike 96%, come out. Exclusives are what players consider when choosing their console, and the Sony exclusive inFamous series has been doing good for the PlayStation brand since its release in 2009. inFamous: Second Son seems to be carrying on that legacy.

Who all has had a chance to play inFamous: Second Son? Is it as good as the hype make it out to be? Is this game enough to warrant the purchase of a PlayStation 4? Comment below with thoughts!

Apparently PlayStation 4 Will Allow Preloading in April

Presumably in reference to Infamous: Second Son, a fan tweeted developer Sucker Punch asking “is there a way to pre-download that before Friday?” and the response given was very interesting. No, the fan cannot preload Infamous: Second Son, but apparently preload functionality is coming to PlayStation 4 in April, as Sucker Punch’s response began with “no preload on PS4 until April.”

If this turns out to be true, and a preloading feature is scheduled for April, then it’s kind of weird that this is how we found out, but it’s pretty cool nonethless, I suppose, right?

New Infamous: Second Son Screenshots

With Infamous: Second Son‘s release coming up in a few days, a bunch of new screenshots of the game have been revealed for the public to see. The pictures shown do not spoil the game’s story, they just show up close shots of the main hero, Delsin Rowe (played by Troy Baker), along with beautiful shots of the games setting of Seattle. The game will be released on the PlayStation 4 on March 21st.

Check out the some of the pictures below!

My Take:

If you ask me, the game looks great. I know Infamous: Second Son is under fire with the same criticism as Watch_Dogs with the graphics not looking as good as the trailers shown, but I like the look of the game. I also enjoy the fact that Troy Baker is playing the main character. I plan on getting a PlayStation 4 soon in the future so hopefully I can play this game once I get my hands on Sony’s big black box.

Infamous: Second Son’s Accolades Trailer is Quite Stylish

Infamous: Second Son‘s due for release on PlayStation 4 in just two days, so, obviously, Sony’s plugging it pretty hard right now, but I’ll be damned if they aren’t doing a good job of it. The latest is a short, thirty-second accolades trailer in which Delsin is shown kicking the shit out of people to a punk rock-ish tune while quotations of praise from various outlets pop on and off screen. There’s a bit calling it “the first truly next-gen experience for the PS4,” one that says it “looks and plays like a dream,” another claiming it’s “explosive and electrifying,” and others.

It’s all very cool, very pretty, and very stylish.

Infamous fans, get excited. Gameplay footage of the upcoming addition to the series, Infamous: Second Son, was leaked yesterday through a Russian website called Lenta. inFAMOUS: Second Son Trying to Make City More Believable

Speaking from personal experience, playing the PlayStation 3 exclusive inFAMOUS was a lot of fun, and the open world city made for some pretty interesting encounters. But the game’s setting never really felt “real.” There were loads of character models walking the streets, sure, but nothing about them felt like much more than decoration. This didn’t ruin inFAMOUS, not by a long shot, but I’d say it was certainly a mark against it. In inFAMOUS: Second Son, it seems Sucker Punch is addressing it.

Creative director Nate Fox was speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine, discussing the concept of “The Reality Bubble,” when he explained that, in Second Son, Sucker Punch developers “don’t want it to feel like when [our hero] Delsin leaves the block, everything goes away.” He says they’ve got “more systems running concurrently than ever before,” working together to create a city that feels more alive than those of the previous inFAMOUS games.

“We have a term inside the studio called The Reality Bubble. We don’t want it to feel like when [our hero] Delsin leaves the block, everything goes away. So we actually have things going on. There are more systems running concurrently than ever before – the urban ecosystem, all these pedestrians interacting with each other in ways that fill out their attitudes about what’s going on in the city. This is something new to Second Son that we’ve never tried in the previous two inFamous games.” — Nate Fox

To me, that sounds fantastic. One of my major problems with the first inFAMOUS (and it seemed reflected in the little time I spent with inFAMOUS 2) was that the world felt like a delivery vessel for content rather than an actual place in which events were occurring. inFAMOUS: Second Son may very well end up being the first game I actually buy for my PlayStation 4. Are you looking forward to it?

inFAMOUS: Second Son Releasing March, New “Neon” Power Trailer

It didn’t manage to make it as a launch title, and it’s not going to make its previously announced February release date either, but inFAMOUS: Second Son is still very adamantly sticking within the launch window. Sony now says Second Son is “Coming March 21st, 2014,” about four months from now. The Limited and Collector’s editions of the game will presumably be available on the same day.

Alongside this announcement comes a new trailer showing off “Delsin’s latest power, Neon,” which is some sort of glowing purple energy-type thing. Apparently a few of the game’s developers got into a debate on “which power is actually the best,” wherein Lead Designer Jaime Griesemer described the Neon power as “basically firing lasers out of your hands, so you’re a natural sniper,” saying it’s “all about precision from a distance.”

Darren Bridges (Power Designer): Ok, is this really a debate? Smoke is the clear winner. There’s nothing better than dashing in and choke-slamming some DUP stooge, then firing a Cinder Blast that destroys the tower his buddies are standing on.

Jaime Griesemer (Lead Designer): Sure, if you want to get your hands dirty, Smoke is great. But Neon is clean and streamlined. You’re basically firing lasers out of your hands, so you’re a natural sniper. With Neon, combat is all about precision from a distance. Each shot hits hard, especially if you’re targeting the enemy’s weak points. Neon lets you dissect a squad of Dupes like a glowing purple surgeon.

Darren: Sniping is cool, but Smoke lets you travel through air vents and launch yourself out over the rooftops. It turns the entire city into your own personal playground. And smoke is everywhere — if you run out, you just damage a car and get some more. That’s like being able to punch a cow and make hamburgers fly out.

Jaime: Interesting metaphor… But who needs to go on a “vent hunt” when you can just run straight up a wall, instead?! Neon gets you where you want to go, fast. And enemies aren’t going to be able to hit a streak of light. Plus, draining Neon looks cooler.

Darren: Orbital Drop. […mic drop]

The Neon powers look very visceral to me, and given how much I value the sensation of a game’s mechanics, I’d guess I’ll end up liking Neon more than my other options. What do you think?

Infamous: Second Son Collector’s and Limited Editions Shown, Exclusive “Cole’s Legacy” DLC

Releasing February next year, inFAMOUS: Second Son is one of Sony’s premiere launch window exclusives for PlayStation 4, and Sony’s just revealed that, following the trend of so many other AAA titles, the game will be receiving some special editions, in this case being of the Collector’s and Limited varieties. You can get the the Limited Edition by pre-ordering or already having pre-ordered in the past, and you can get the Collector’s Edition for the bumped up price of $79.99 while supplies lasts.

As potential later-adopters will certainly be a bit irritated to find out, both special editions come with exclusive DLC which will be (arbitrarily?) kept from those who purchase the standard edition, as ”
it’s only available through these offers here.” Both have altered covers as well, the Limited Edition with a foil version of the original artwork and the Collector’s Edition with special, exclusive special artwork plus a pretty box.

The exclusive DLC goes by the name of Cole’s Legacy and is said to ”
bridge the gap” between inFAMOUS 2 and inFAMOUS: Second Son, which, for those unaware, features a different protagonist than its two series predecessors. The description given for Cole’s Legacy is a bit small, so here’s a transcription:

“Play through a series of missions to uncover what happened between the devastating events of
Infamous 2 and Infamous Second Son. Complete the mission and unlock Cole’s jacket in-game.”

And without further ado, here are the images shown by Sony alongside the reveal:

Complementing the bits I’ve already explained, the Collector’s Edition has a few other trinkets that may be of interest to
inFAMOUS‘s more enthusiastic fans. According to the bullet points on the image below, inFAMOUS: Second Son Collector’s Edition comes with a “premium replica of Delsin’s beanie,” a “set of 8 pins from Delsin’s in-game vest,” an “official DUP patch,” and “exclusive digital content: Delsin’s ‘Legendary’ in-game vest” alongside a retail copy of the game itself. Here’s the picture:

Pre-order DLC—really DLC of any kind, but
especially pre-order DLC—is something I’m always incredibly skeptical of, but if that’s your thing, then it looks like you’re going to want to pre-order Sucker Punch’s inFAMOUS: Second Son on PlayStation 4. Are any of you planning to?

Rumor: inFamous Could Come to PS Vita

During a video interview with Sucker Punch’s Nate Fox, the director of inFamous: Second Son, the folks over at DualShockers asked whether or not Fox had anything to say regarding Sony’s struggling handheld PS Vita. It’s definitely not conclusive proof, but Fox’s wording and awkward delivery of his response may be an indication that Sucker Punch and Sony are working on a PS Vita entry for the inFamous series:

“Uh, right now we’re only talking about the PS4 game. I would love to talk to you about any Vita related title when… or if the time comes.” — Nate Fox

Infamous: Second Son Releasing in February 2014

Infamous: Second Son is an upcoming action-adventure game releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 4, and was originally planned to be released alongside Sony’s next gen console.

Infamous: Second Son is set approximately 7 years after the events of the Infamous 2 (the good ending, that is) in Seattle, Washington, and the player takes control of Delsin Rowe, a 24-year old graffiti artist. With his awakened conduit abilities, Delsin dedicates himself to opposing the Department of Unified Protection (DUP), who are basically the official bad guys who fear and fight to restrain Conduits.

According to Polygon, the game was confirmed for a release date of February, next year.

So unfortunately, gamers will have to wait longer to play this epic-looking game on the PlayStation 4; but on the bright side, it’s something more to look forward to in the upcoming year, right?
