Thanos Might Be Returning to Fortnite

Last May, Epic Games teamed up with Marvel for a crossover event that brought the villainous Thanos and his all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet to Fortnite for a limited time event. Players could find and equip the gauntlet to transform into Thanos himself and wreak havoc on their opponents with overpowered punches and laser attacks.

The event was short-lived, but it may soon be returning. Data miners have been digging through the version 8.30 update, and they’ve discovered new kill and death feed messages that mention Thanos. Last year’s event kicked off shortly after Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters, so it would make sense to bring it back around the same time that Avengers: Endgame begins its run later this month.

Thanos is Coming to Fortnite in an Infinity War Crossover Event

Oh snap! The hottest movie and game in the world are about to collide. After teasing superheroes for Fortnite‘s fourth season, Epic is cranking things up several notches with an official partnership with Marvel. This deal will bring Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet to Fortnite Battle Royale for a limited time as part of an Infinity War crossover event.

Starting tomorrow, May 8th, players will be able to find the Infinity Gauntlet (complete with all six Infinity Stones) hidden somewhere on the map in a special new mode. If you can find and equip it, you’ll transform into the Mad Titan himself, ready to wreak havoc on the universe. This partnership was made possible by the fact that Joe and Anthony Russo, the film’s directors, are big fans of

“Over the past few months, while we were editing
Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games. And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of AvengersFortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.” — Joe Russo

Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games, was both shocked and excited to be receiving a call from Russo. The two quickly began planning ideas for a future crossover, keeping authenticity at the forefront of their plans.

“Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both
Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.

Infinity War blew us away, and the Russos, [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige, and the whole team at Marvel have been incredible to work with. This kind of opportunity, where you have this mutual respect for someone’s work and you’re on the same page about doing something cool for fans, is rare and really exciting. We hope players love it.”

Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet will begin appearing in Fortnite Battle Royale tomorrow across all platforms, including the mobile version. This is a limited time only event, but it’s not clear yet when it will wrap up.
