Love it or hate it, there is no denying the success shared between Five Nights at Freddy’s and its sequels since the series debuted on Steam nearly two years ago, and with a published novel, a movie in the works, and console remakes on the way, Scott Cawthon’s hit survival horror series will not disappear from under the gaming spotlight anytime soon. There is one unfortunate bit of news concerning remasters on home systems, however, with Cawthon doubting that a Wii U version of Five Nights at Freddy’s will ever come to pass.
Cawthon shared his thoughts on the matter in a Steam Community thread when a fan mentioned the possibility of official Five Nights at Freddy’s Amiibo following the recent announcement of console remakes. While he is not against the idea of Five Nights at Freddy’s on Wii U outright, he “[doubts] the Wii U will be [a] thing by the time a home console release is ready.”
It is a bummer that the games will potentially be skipping the Wii U and not take advantage of the GamePad in some form, but Cawthon’s reasoning is sound—Nintendo is already preparing to launch their new console, code named NX, globally
in March 2017, with their own support for the Wii U likely to diminish from then on.
Would you have wanted to play Five Nights at Freddy’s on the Wii U, or do you agree with Scott Cawthon’s stance on the subject? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
