Geoff Keighley recently wrapped up the fifth annual presentation of The Game Awards, and it was the biggest year yet in terms of new game announcements. As it turns out, it was also the biggest year yet in terms of viewership, and it wasn’t even close. The total number of viewers for The Game Awards 2018 more than doubled 2017’s total, which itself was nearly triple 2016’s numbers.
This year’s show brought in a total of 26.2 million views. The previous four years saw The Game Awards attract 11.5 million, 3.8 million, 2.3 million, and 1.9 million views. Views on Twitch and YouTube were each more than double last year’s totals with new record concurrent viewer counts of 1.13 million and 4 million, respectively. Fan voting for the show was also up 50% with over 10 million votes cast.
