Virtual reality has reached the dawn of its proving ground. Multiple headsets are releasing this year, and prices are even more hefty than expected. However, the HTC Vive may have overcome its exuberant seven hundred and ninety-nine US dollars price tag, as it sold over 15,000 units in just its first ten minutes on the market. This data comes from Shen Ye, one of the developers behind Vive. There’s no doubt that VR will remain somewhat niche for the time being, but this number suggests that that niche is incredibly excited for this new form of media. We’ll see if the Vive can stay afloat when it launches in April, but it’s already off to a fantastic start.
