The Incredible Fan-Made Remake of Metroid II Will Continue Development in Private

Nintendo did nothing to celebrate the Metroid franchise’s 30th anniversary last week, but an incredible fan-made remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus was launched to mark the occasion. AM2R: Return of Samus has been extremely well received by Metroid fans and critics, but its availability was very quickly limited when Nintendo squashed the game with a DMCA take down notice.

In the aftermath of this unfortunate event, the project’s creator has addressed fans in a blog post. The message reveals that the game will continue development (with a focus on bug fixes) in private, though it’s unclear how updates will be shared with fans in the future. The game’s creator also declared himself satisfied both “technically” and “artistically” despite its removal, and he urges fans to buy official Metroid releases to show support for the franchise instead of getting angry at Nintendo.
