The Pokémon Company has been releasing videos detailing the new features for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for a while now. With the games’ releases about a month away, Z-Moves for the legendaries Solgaleo and Lunala have been revealed along with new functionality for the trainer’s Rotom Pokédex.
As seen in the trailer above, Solgaleo will obtain the Searing Sunraze Smash for its Z-Move, while Lunala will be granted the Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom attack. Both of these moves require new Z-Crystals—Solgalium Z and Lunalium Z—alongside each legendary’s signature move, Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam, respectively. These new attacks draw the target into an Ultra Wormhole before unleashing powerful moves that ignore the target’s abilities, allowing them to, for example, take down Pokémon with Sturdy or Disguise in a single attack.
The new Necrozma forms, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, will also be able to use these Z-Moves. Each of these forms gets a spotlight in the trailer, revealing that they hold the Prism Armor ability and have a new move at their disposal: Photon Geyser. These Pokémon look like they will be devastating in battle.
Additionally, the Rotom Dex also gains its very own Z-Power in the form of “friendship support.” It looks like trainers will be able to interact with Rotom a lot more than they could in Sun and Moon, and building up that friendship will eventually unlock this support, which allows the trainer to use their Z-Power a second time during a given battle. As the friendship between Rotom and trainer grows, the Pokémon will also be able to initiate a “Roto Loto,” which can grant you the ability to boost experience points earned or increase the chances of running into wild Pokémon, to name a couple examples.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launch on November 17th, 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
