This morning, Bungie officially announced the previously leaked expansion, Destiny: Rise of Iron. As formerly speculated, the new expansion focuses on the story of the Iron Lords and the plague they sacrificed themselves to hide away. The expansion features new enemies and a campaign taking place in entirely new areas. But it doesn’t stop there, as this expansion will also feature new PvP maps, game modes, weapons, armor, and even an entirely new raid. The expansion will be available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 20th for $30.

Some of the new locations you will be able to visit during the all-new campaign and story mode include the Plaguelands, the location of the SIVA outbreak that causes a rapid growth of nano-bots that the Fallen have used to technologically augment themselves to be faster, better, and stronger. It’s now up to the player to defeat these new enemies, and fight their way back to the top of Fellwinter Peak, another location and social area which you must first unlock by clearing the enemies lurking there.

In addition to the new locations, new armor and weapons will be on their way along with a few old favorites like the Gjallahorn, which can be obtained during a quest in which players forge their own Gjallahorn using the armor of past fallen heroes. Or of course, you could pre-order to receive the limited black variant. Unfortunately, players on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will not be able to access the expansion; however, there will be options for them to transfer their characters progress to a current gen console in August. And finally, when asked if people actually still played Destiny, Community Manager Deej replied with an affirmative “Hell yes.” More details will be coming at E3 as well, so stay tuned!
