The 2017 Nintendo World Championships were nothing if not exciting if you love Nintendo games, especially the competitive ones. Seeing new titles like Metroid: Samus Returns and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well as classics like Super Mario Bros. Deluxe and Tetris on the international stage was absolutely awesome. Super Mario Odyssey ended the event as the last game played in the final round between John Numbers and Thomas G.

Thomas G was the underdog from the start, as John Numbers won the championships in 2015. Furthermore, Thomas had lost a previous round and was forced to battle through the Championships’ “underground” section to earn back his chance to compete in the final round. Even so, when the pair went into the final round against a brand new boss from Super Mario Odyssey‘s Sand Kingdom, it was Thomas G who navigated the level quickest and took down the massive foe first.

Along with a full boss battle, a new level of sorts was shown for Odyssey. Hazy in design and featuring multiple 2D Mario sections, the Roulette Tower could be a secret level or part of a new world entirely. I guess we’ll find out when Odyssey releases on October 27th for Nintendo Switch.

Hey all! I've been a gamer since I was three. I'm one of those people with gaming so ingrained in them that watching my father play Super Mario 64 is actually my first memory I can recall. I love writing too! I'm writing an original fantasy series that takes place in another universe; it may take some inspiration from some of my favorite franchises. I've been a journalist for a few years, have worked on local and national teams, and have garnered experience assigning stories, editing, writing, interviewing, hosting a television series, running a YouTube channel, and doing other stuff that's more fun to mention in conversation. Bios can drag on. Anyway, I'm super stoked to be a part of the Gamnesia team! Thanks for having me!
