Last week, we learned that Nintendo would be reviving the Nintendo World Championships this year at E3; then, a few days ago we learned that the event’s qualifiers would only be held at eight Best Buy stores nationwide. Now, even more details have come out about the event.

According to new information on Best Buy’s website, the event will only be open to 750 players per store, or 6000 players total; to enter, you will need to complete a registration form (available online) and take it to a participating store when registration opens at 9 AM local time. You must be at least 13 years old to participate, and players under 18 (or the legal age in your state) must be accompanied by a parent.

As we learned previously, the qualifier will consist of a run of Ultimate NES Remix‘s Championship Mode, and the top scorer will move on to the finals in Los Angeles; if there is a tie, there will be a play-off in the Super Mario Bros. portion of the mode. The winner from each store will receive two plane tickets to LA (or travel compensation if you live in the LA area), a two night stay in a hotel, and a $250 Visa gift card. These eight winners will be joined at the finals by eight guest competitors.

It sounds like you might want to get to one of the participating Best Buy stores early if you want your shot at greatness! What do you guys think?

Greetings Gamnesiacs! I'm Elijah Holt, a Associate Editor coming at you live from beautiful Alabama. My love for gaming started at an early age and has ingrained a love for two different gaming companies in my mind. On one side, my love of the Nintendo 64 and my countless hours spent perfecting the first few levels of Super Mario 64 (I was never good enough to get past those...maybe if they release it for the Wii U eShop someday...) resulted in my love for everything Nintendo; meanwhile, I also owned an original PlayStation, which has resulted in me currently owning a PS3 and PS4 for a few Sony exclusives and third-party titles. I'm a recent graduate of Auburn University, where I majored in Software Engineering. I currently work in DevOps as an Automation Engineer. I look forward to continuing to provide the finest content on the internet to loyal Gamnesia readers like you. Want to contact me? You can always shoot me an email at [email protected]
