There have been plenty of games based on Marvel superheroes in the past, but very few have seen the light of day in recent years. It seems the superhero gaming drought is about to end however, as Marvel Entertainment recently uploaded a video to their YouTube channel announcing a partnership with Square Enix to develop multiple games set within the titular universe. More so, it was revealed that Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal will be working together to develop the first game, The Avengers Project.
According to the video description, the games will be set in an entirely new story and universe. The use of the word “universe” seems to imply that, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the two companies are trying to create a Marvel Gaming Universe.
Unfortunately, as of right now all we have is this short (51 seconds long) teaser for The Avengers Project, and it does not look like we will be getting anything else for at least another year or so. The video description ends by saying, “More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.” The teaser itself, however, does feature a pretty neat point of interest; the tagline is “reassemble,” implying that the Avengers have already assembled at some point. Coupled with images of Iron Man’s broken suit and Thor’s hammer buried in rubble, it seems like The Avengers Project may take place well after our heroes have fallen. Only time will tell, though—a whole lot of time.
